Moms find it hard to believe that as a former high school English teacher-turned homeschooling mom of 24 years, I ditched our English curriculum and replaced it with copywork–the simple act of copying good literature exactly as it’s written so as to train the brain to use language well.
I even wondered if it would be enough if my kids wanted to go to college. And then it happened. My daughter went to college for nursing. I held my breath.
She was not only top of every class, (and we are VERY relaxed homeschoolers!) but her English professor emailed to ask if he could use her essay to show the class as an example. Of course it was the first one she had ever written!
And that was the day I let go of any fear hanging on and became a full believer in this age-old practice.
If you want to know exactly how to make this work for you, I would encourage you to take my course, Simply Copywork, where I have answered all the questions I’ve been asked about the how-tos.

I ordered the copy work, how do I access it?
I’m so sorry I’m just seeing this! Did you find it or have you reached out to me somewhere else for help?
Hi Kelly –
Is this something that would help a struggling reader, writer, and speller who is 16 and suspected dyslexic?
Yes! I’ve heard from many moms who said copywork was the only thing that helped their child with dyslexia.
