What we do to kids when we measure them all by the same standard is destructive at best.
I knew I had to apologize to some of my students, but this one was especially difficult.
As homeschooling parents, it’s so easy to do the same thing with our kids–measure them by the same academic standard, forgetting that there are many forms of intelligence.

Would love more info non deschooling
Did you see the link under the video that explains more on deschooling?
Beautifully written🙏May I post this to my website? http://www.homeschoolcampus.org

Certainly! Thank you!
My son is 5.5 yrs old. He had a traumatic brain injury at birth and has a host of cognitive/learning disabilities, as well as poor motor skills. You would not know this to look at him.
The state we currently live in, is very lax (thankfully) but I’m looking into moving to an area that has better communities as he gets older. It’s just him and I. And I don’t want to “leave” him without support. But all the areas I’ve looked at, require evaluations. He would NEVER meet their standards, ever, and I’m so afraid to me up.
Do you have any advice? Area to move to? Etc. The world is our canvas… So anywhere is ok
Thank you for sharing this.. I was deeply hurt by the school system as well as my parents too. They never valued my creative talents and measured me by my academic achievements. Today, I am struggling to understand what value I bring to this world & I desire to pursue my gifts but I am too deeply insecure to do it. I hope that I can give my kids the freedom to pursue their gifts and know that they are valuable no matter what. I find it hard to break out of the schooling mentality while homeschool even though it hurt me, some things are hard to shake off.. but your video reminded me that my children are meant to explore their talents and enjoy learning.
I’m so glad it encouraged you!
