When most of us start homeschooling, we carry a lot of baggage from our own school experiences.
We think education is mostly about academics, test scores, and preparing our kids for college.
But the longer I’ve homeschooled, the more I’ve realized something important:
Academics are just a tiny slice of a whole education.
Yes, reading, writing, and math matter. But so do confidence, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.
And if we’re really honest, we know that most of what determines our kids’ futures won’t come from a textbook.
It comes from the skills they can actually use in the real world.
College Pressure Isn’t the Whole Story
I’ve written before about how the pressure to “get our kids ready for college” can be crushing for homeschool moms.
We feel like if we don’t keep up with every subject, every test, every transcript—then somehow, we’re failing.
But here’s the truth:
Most kids won’t need advanced algebra or chemistry in their daily lives.
What they will need is the ability to communicate, think creatively, solve problems, and adapt to a digital world.
That’s why my focus has shifted. I don’t want to raise kids who are just “college-ready.”
I want to raise kids who are life-ready.
The #1 Skill for the 21st Century
One of the most practical ways we’re doing that in our home is by learning digital marketing.
Now, before you roll your eyes and think “ads and influencers,” let me explain.
Digital marketing isn’t just about selling things online. It’s about:
- Learning how to communicate clearly and persuasively
- Understanding how people think and what they value
- Creating content (videos, blogs, graphics) that connects with others
- Building something from scratch and turning it into value
In other words, it’s creativity, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving all wrapped up in one.
And whether my kids decide to start a business, work for a company, or follow a totally different path, these are skills that will serve them for life.
How We’re Learning It as a Family
Here’s the cool part: I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel.
I found a program called Legacy Builders that gives us:
- Step-by-step training in digital marketing (easy enough for beginners)
- Done-for-you products and tools so we can “earn while we learn”
- A supportive community of people learning the same skills
It started as a way for me to help support our family income from home.
But what surprised me is how naturally it became part of our homeschool, too.
When my kids see me learning new skills, they learn that education doesn’t stop at graduation.
When I show them how I create content, run a simple website, or connect with people online, they’re learning how the world works in 2025 and beyond.
And when they see the potential for income they get really excited! (It has brought us so much relief from financial stress!)
And in a way, I feel like I’m finally preparing them for life—not just for college.

Why This Matters for Homeschool Moms
Maybe you don’t care about marketing.
Maybe you just want your kids to grow up confident, capable, and creative.
That’s the point.
Digital marketing is really just a framework for teaching the skills our kids actually need: curiosity, problem-solving, communication, and the courage to build something of their own.
For me, Legacy Builders has been the tool to make that practical.
It gives me a way to support my family financially and pass on future-ready skills to my kids.
So no—homeschooling doesn’t have to look like school.
And no—our kids don’t have to be “college-ready” to succeed.
What they really need is to be life-ready.
And teaching them digital skills might just be one of the best gifts we can give them.
