I’m late to the absurdity of the Harrison Butker controversy from a speech he gave to a graduating class, but I’ve watched it, and still can’t believe all the backlash he has received. If you haven’t seen what has everybody in a twist, here is a snippet of the “outrageous” thing he said:

What sparked the fire

“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.

Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.

I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I’m on this stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school, who would convert to the faith, become my wife and embrace one of the most important titles of all: Homemaker.”

What they’re saying

I’ve seen comments ranging from “he’s a hateful misogynist” (he literally praised women–the opposite of what that word means) to the Nuns of Benedictine College who said: “Butker’s words were divisive and the assertion that women should only be homemakers is false.” None of which is true. He never said that at all. He was praising his wife and elevating the role of Homemaker to an equal status as a career.

Feminists will never have what they want

Feminists will never have what they claim to want. A logical feminist, true to the definition she claims to believe, MUST agree that the role of Homemaker is equal to any other role. Our culture has gone mad.

Christian mamas: raise men and women who are bold to proclaim truth even if it costs them. Especially if it costs them.
