Generation Cedar

(Warning: Fire extinguisher may be needed.)

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., defended huge sums of money for “family planning services” tucked into President Obama’s proposed economic stimulus package, claiming contraception will reduce government costs.

“…contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”

“So no apologies for that?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“No apologies,” Pelosi answered. “No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.”

Does anyone else feel like jumping up and down and screaming “You people have lost your minds!”

Because here’s the thing….they’ve had plenty of chance to prove that “contraception reduces things”…as they’ve tried to convince us it reduces number of abortions. Statistics clearly show it has NOT reduced but increased the number of abortions. Guess what? That costs money–OUR money and the government’s money.

And I find it very interesting that no one is talking about the millions of dollars being spent on health care due to the adverse effects of artificial birth control on a woman’s body–increased cancers of every kind, depression meds, etc.

Now she suggests that “fewer children is better for the economy”. Um, Mrs. Pelosi, how about fewer cars, smaller houses, fewer vacations, fewer entertainment splurges, fewer house keepers, fewer $40 fingernail indulgences (sorry if you get your nails done–speaking generally, here ;-), fewer beauty supplies, fewer convenience foods, fewer divorces, fewer officials flying all over the place for million-dollar “conferences”–how about Americans who actually start living within their means?

And I realize most of those are personal expenses, but it’s all mixed together. There’s a whole list the government could use–it’s all the same on a personal level or national…we’ve consistently spent far more money than we have. And the government pumps money into all sorts of areas where they have no business.

Do we really want to fix the economy? We could start by reducing the number of households. Why don’t we introduce a proposal that actually holds couples to the “til death do us part” vows they make in a social contract between families and a covenant before God (provided there is not REAL reason for divorce)?

Or increase funding for Thrift Store advertising to limit the outrageous clothing budgets families have? If children are expensive, it’s our fault, not theirs.

We could fund advertisement for “spend what you make” campaigns and aim to put credit card companies out of business.

These are partly tongue-in-cheek, but my gracious, if we’re going to throw money at anything, at least throw it at something that might make a slight difference!

Here’s an even better idea–why don’t we tell the government to keep their sticky fingers out of our lives-including our pockets for funding absurd programs that a third-grader could see do not work!

Yes, I’m a little steamed. Read the whole report HERE.

By the way, the story below is highly ironic in light of our “brilliant American plans”….

“Japan is in the midst of an unprecedented recession, so corporations are being asked to work toward fixing another major problem: the country’s low birthrate.”

Urged to “Go Home and Multiply”

  1. Ha! In Italy, you can get a “Baby Bonus” paid to you for helping the economy by bearing children.

In Italy they want to improve the economy by paying women NOT to have abortions, too.

“Under the scheme women in straitened economic circumstances would get between €250 (£170) and €350 a month for up to six months before giving birth. The plan is outlined in a proposed amendment to next year’s budget sponsored by a group of MPs that includes two former women ministers – one an ex-Communist and the other from the centre-left.”

    Singapore pays the baby-makers, too:
“Alarmed by the still plunging fertility rate, the PAP has increased its financial incentives to encourage bigger families, amounting to cash gifts of S$3000 (US$1889) for the first child and savings of up to S$18,000 each for the third and fourth child.”

It’s all knee-jerk reactionary Nanny Statism! Government needs to back off. Do they not remember our TRILLIONS of dollars of debt? If they are worried about the economic cost of more babies, just cancel the WELFARE subsidies to people who drain the economy. Bingo! Save money by…not spending it! Brilliant!

  2. Does anyone know what happened to Demographic Winter online? I looked for it all over the place and couldn’t find it anywhere…I REALLY want to watch that.

  3. That really made me angry too, but what's more, it's just downright disturbing. Between the abortion thing & now these comments; this country really hates children & we're going to pay for it.

That attitude is a slippery slope as well; there are horrors in other countries & I just keep praying we "don't go there", but with that attitude being so prevalent it's very scary.

  4. Ack! I am just so sick of hearing that “kids cost money!” Do we not consider any other aspect of parenting in this country anymore?? It makes me furious.

  5. I know I’m not the only one thinking this but “This country is going to hell fast!” I feel as though I am not a citizen anymore because of all of the rubbish they are trying to implement. I don’t want to fund abortions with my tax dollars and I certainly don’t want the majority thinking it’s “grand”. I feel out of place and can agree with Kim M. in a prior comment saying, “I want to move as far away into the country and get away from all of this crap!” I don’t know if you used the word crap Kim, but I am:).

  6. Short term solution contributing to a long term problem! What happens to our economy in thirty years when there isn’t an adequate work force to support all the old people?

So short-sighted! And this from someone who claims to be Catholic! Nancy Pelosi should be ashamed of herself. I hope her priest denies her the Eucharist, because she is not living by the tenets of her claimed faith!

  7. And might I add, though many will disagree, I STILL believe that we didn’t get here overnight, and the widely accepted use of birth control had to be the forerunner of abortion and all the other things we’re now headed toward (euthanasia is around the bend.) We should not be surprised.

Until the people of God recognize their mistakes regarding our attitude toward children, we will continue to reap the obvious consequences.

It’s time we stop making our own rules.

  8. Disgusting. “Population control” has been on the liberal agenda for years. I had a conversation with a liberal atheist about this many years ago, and it left me sick to my stomach. They have all kinds of reasons–global warming, limited resources, and now the economy….it all boils down to a rebellion against God. God is a God of life. Satan loves death and destruction. It is not surprising, but it is disgusting.

In happier news, a woman in California gave birth to octuplets today!

  9. I totally agree with everything you said, Kelly! I saw the clip of Nancy Pelosi saying it, and I played it again and thought, “She is CRAZY!”

My 15 year old son looked over my shoulder and said,” Well, that won’t solve anything, Momma. We NEED children! Why don’t they just quit spending money that they do not have?”

“Until the people of God recognize their mistakes regarding our attitude toward children, we will continue to reap the obvious consequences. It’s time we stop making our own rules.”

    Great summary Kelly—

  10. Liberal abortion funding has nothing to do with the economy, except that the doom-and-gloom associated with it is so widely accepted. Kind of reminds me of the Iraq war bandwagon, which didn’t make sense when proposed, but people were too afraid of terrorism to counter.

Pelosi, unfortunately, is my congresswoman. She’s full of “progressive” Californian rhetoric, which amounts to a pile of rubbish. In her opinion, which reflects my state’s moral position, fewer children is also good for the environment, by reducing the carbon footprint of man. I say, if people are so concerned about reducing a carbon footprint, they should start with their own: instead of funding abortion and its inevitable aftermath, they should just leap off one of our lovely cliffs with a millstone about their necks.

We must remember that we who home school are raising the next generation of leadership and nothing can deter the Lord from His willful plan-not Pelosi, not Obama, not even his apostate church. They and we are all a part and parcel of His glory now and to come.

  11. Laura Lee,

A great reminder of what is my “eternal optimist” outlook…we may live in a culture of death, but there are families by the thousands who refuse to embrace it, who are receiving children as blessings, who are investing their lives into bringing up soldiers for Christ, and all I say is, “Look out world.”

  12. These people have truly lost their minds.

Wisdom comes from God and they have no wisdom because they turn their backs on God.

  13. You forgot the best one of all…HOW ABOUT PELOSI AND EVERYONE ELSE TAKE A HUGE PAYCUT! In fact, make it voluntary with no salary and we will have a HUGE SURPLUS and much LESS coruption!

    Many Blessings 🙂

  14. I resent the government funding abortion and contraceptives, it goes against everything I believe in. I wish Nancy Pelosi would just drop the “catholic” she doesn’t believe or embrace anything the church teaches, and watching her makes me physically ill. When children are viewed as too expensive to have it just shows how backwards we have become as a nation.

  15. I SO wish I could have your optimism Kelly… I agree with the commenter that said this country is going to hell – fast. There’s a country in Europe killing babies who have “defects” – up to 1 yr old!!!! That’s where we’re headed…

With the amount of “christians” backing our new pres, I just don’t have your hope.

I do hope for our Lord’s quick return though!!

  16. Leisha,

Lord willing… at least my hubby and I *plan* to start looking for that place out in the country by April or May.

    On another note,

I was watching an old movie(“Drums Along the Mohawk”) the other night with my family. We are old Western nuts around here.

It reminded me that it’s a good thing the people “back then” didn’t have our mindset today.

Hardship left and right, but the babies still kept coming and people wanted them (and this is highlighted in one part of the movie)…
even in the worst of circumstances.

Just thought that was kind of interesting.

  17. Dear Kelly,
A few years back I was introduced to this phrase. Our government has used this method numerous times to get the results they desire. If our country can be dummied down to third world standards, then upper management will have it easier to dictate who gets what, when and where.

Isn’t it the people who create things to use, sell, buy, share for the ECONOMY? If there is a shortage in males to pay taxes…then there will be a harder push then there already is for females to do their so-called patriotic duty to join the tax paying army.

With fewer American humans being born due to abortions, birth control and wrong mind sets to pay taxes that generates monies for government spending, wouldn’t it just SEEM LOGICAL to draft the homemakers and home schoolers into the working class while the government calls the shots to police the globe and just plain help out the economy?

Next will come the so-called necessity to clean out the aged and handicapped because they are causing a hardship on our economy…it’s just not economically feasible to be compassionate. Do you suppose the LIBERAL MINDED government will say “Well, they just use up too many resources and hog up air that we other people need.”

As a Charismatic Financial Guru steps up to save the world’s economy, the anti-christ will be ushered in.

Enjoy your blog. Plez keep writing.

May God open our eyes to being who He wants us to be.

  18. This has been quite misreported. Under current law, the Secretary has the authority under section 1115 of the Social Security Act to grant waivers to states to allow them to cover family planning services and supplies to low-income women who are not otherwise eligible for Medicaid. The bill would give states the option to provide such coverage without obtaining a waiver. States could continue to use the existing waiver authority if they preferred. In other words, this already exists – it’s just cutting the cost of paperwork.

As Pelosi explained, covering family planning services will actually reduce costs in the state with bypassing excess administration.

Pelosi’s comments were grossly misinterpreted as suggesting that, “birth control will help the economy” and Rush Limbaugh even had the audacity to suggest that if we want to keep pregnancy rates down to, “post a picture of Pelosi in every motel room in America.”

  19. Children would not be a burden to the State if they would quit trying to be the children’s parent, health care and education are the parent’s responsibility, not the State’s.

What makes me just as angry is that we are sending OUR TAX MONEY to fund “Family Planning (birth control/abortion)” in OTHER COUNTRIES!!!

  20. Perhaps when this slippery slope morphs into euthanasia, they will help our economy by getting rid of the “excessive paperwork” to make that easier too?

  21. Can’t find one report that validates the asssertion that Peloski was merely trying to “reduce administration costs”…her words “contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government–no apologies”.

  22. For some reason the link I gave didn’t copy the caption, so I will quote it from Wikipedia:
“a cureless publically dangerous madman. This genetic invalid costs the state 2000 Mark a year.” (original description from the 1934 nazi exhibition)

  23. Does Pelosi have any sense? What is she thinking? Common sense tells you that without people, there is no economy. If we stop having children, that’s exactly where we will be within the next century.

Maybe humans need to become extinct so the environment and economy can be saved? I can’t believe people actually voted for this woman, but then I have a hard time understanding how Obama came into office as well.

  24. You dummies just don’t get it! Only the elite like Pelosi are supposed to have several children. The rest of us are supposed to dry up and blow away.

  25. “There’s a country in Europe killing babies who have “defects” – up to 1 yr old!!!! That’s where we’re headed…”

You are just going to say that without saying which country? What is your source?

Something (commonsense) tells me this isn’t true.

  26. Laura,

Why would anyone lie about something like that?

Below is an excerpt of the article from the link above.
Notice it says “other than newborn babies”….. Newborns who have no rights. It’s so, so sad.

“Under existing Belgian laws, in place since 2002, patients, other than newborn babies, must be over 18 to qualify for assisted suicide, a situation that Bart Tommelein, leader of Belgium Liberals, wants changed.”

  27. “Arise, O Lord! Punish the wicked, O God!
    Do not ignore the helpless!

Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, ‘God will never call us to account.’ But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.

Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed. The Lord is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.

Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.” (Psalm 10: 12-18; NLT version)

I just started reading the Psalms, and as I read, it’s kind of scary because the thoughts of Obama and the current governmental body continually come to mind while I read the verses. Believers/Christians, this is why we need to put our faith in God and NOT man. These are the times where we need to draw closer to God so He can guide us and direct us.

  28. We spent the past few days in the hospital with our 3 ms. old daughter who had RSV.

During that time, unfortunately we watched the news 🙁

Our nation has been hi-jacked by fools.

We try to teach our children to avoid debt. To avoid that whole attitude that we deserve a bunch of stuff that we have not earned. And watching Obama et al, I just can not grasp how these supposedly grown up people can think that we are going to borrow our way to prosperity.

And it’s not even as if they have a business plan. I am not opposed to borrowing capitol to try to begin a well planned out business. But I just don’t see any plan here at all.

I saw a headline somewhere that said something like “The bailout: giving to the government, not the economy.”

I will not begin ranting. This was a good post Kelly.

  29. Civilla – Ha! That’s what I was thinking.

Kim M. – Laura Ashley was right to ask for a reference. The claim she responded to was a severe accusation. Sources absolutely should be shared. “Why would someone lie about a thing like that?” Well, maybe not lie, but perhaps pass on misunderstood (but dramatic) info, which is still “bearing false witness”. I actually had heard the same thing, and have been looking for a source myself.

  30. Yes Laura Ashley had a right to ask for a reference, I totally agree…

    but I think we all

(*****including and especially myself****) should strive to be careful to show courtesy in our comments.

I don’t think we should imply that others are lying/bearing false witness, or lacking common sense.

Simply asking for a reference would be more courteous instead of implying that the commenter was making it up.

Perhaps since others cannot sit face to face with us, our comments come across more “rude” or “unfeeling” than they should.

I hope I am not as I type. I apologize if I have in the past. Unfortunately we cannot look into each others’ hearts.

If you type in “newborn Euthanasia” in your search engine, you can find a lot of articles.

    Here is one:

“Euthanasia has also entered the pediatric wards, where eugenic infanticide has become common even though babies cannot ask to be killed. According to a 1997 study published in the British medical journal The Lancet, approximately 8 percent of all Dutch infant deaths result from lethal injections. The babies deemed killable are often disabled and thus are thought not to have a “livable life.” The practice has become so common that 45 percent of neonatologists and 31 percent of pediatricians who responded to Lancet surveys had killed babies.”

    full article:

    Here is another from MSNBC

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands – A hospital in the Netherlands — the first nation to permit euthanasia — recently proposed guidelines for mercy killings of terminally ill newborns, and then made a startling revelation: It has already begun carrying out such procedures, which include administering a lethal dose of sedatives.

  31. Kim M. – Nobody attacked or accused anyone. Laura Ashley just said it wasn’t common sense to her and I did nothing more than anwer your specific question. You proved her wrong. Sadly, it does defy common sense, but “the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” – Prov 12:10

She and I both seemed to think that it was a heavy accusation, and…

“A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.” -Deuteronomy 19:15

I would agree that it’s tiresome for someone to always ask for proof or figures, but Laura Ashley only asked for one source, one time. It’s not like she knows you or what kind of track record you have (I’m guessing. For all I know you could be cousins…)

But thank you for the mulitple links. They are specific and very informative. And depressing, but we do need to know the enemy.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” – Proverbs 14:12

  32. Lori,

I am sad that it is true too. 🙁

I wish it were just a made up, outlandish story. 🙁

    Take care and God Bless

  33. Things aren’t any different in the north.

A family friend came to salvation after she had had her tubes tied – a procedure that is completely covered by our health care system. When she and her husband decided to try and reverse the procedure, they were told there was NO coverage of any kind and the cost to complete the procedure was astronomical!

So – procedures for birth control, no problem the tax payers will take care of that…but any procedure to attempt for more children, forget it. And we call this ‘socialized’ medicine!

  34. In response becz I did not throw out information that isn't real… Here is one article… it's nothing new & doesn't even need parental consent:

    And yet another:

As a special needs parent, this touches me personally, & concerns me greatly as future potential here, since our leadership has no respect for life.

  35. I’m a bit late here but had a couple of thoughts.

Matthew 24:6-13 “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled, for all these things must occur; but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in different places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to be afflicted and will kill you. And you will be hated of all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, and will betray one another, and will hate one another. And many false prophets will rise and deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many will become cold. But he who endures to the end, the same shall be kept safe.

    And Paul:

Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the world’s rulers, of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore take to yourselves the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Therefore stand, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching to this very thing with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

The world is “at war” against the principles and people of God. This, in my opinion, includes the war on the unborn. We humans have no right to be able to “play god” with our decisions concerning life. God alone is the giver and taker of life. Those who choose to interfere will be held accountable by Him.

Jesus promised that human depravity would continually get worse until His return and we are instructed to not be troubled as these things MUST happen. Those who abide in Him–and persevere in His Truth will be those who are saved.

Does this mean we should just look the other way and not care that babies are aborted? Absolutely NOT! But, the battle is NOT against flesh and blood–Believe it or not, we are instructed to pray for those who hate us. The people making these terrible decisions are not the true enemy–they are captives who are deceived and being used by the real adversary to achieve his own desires. And, if their eyes are not opened, they will meet with a horrendous, eternally final end.

Paul’s instruction is timely. Let us not get distracted by the horrible offenses and the human arguments for/against such things–let us instead put on the spiritual armor of God and be constantly in prayer for His direction and that His will is done in His timing.

  36. Heather,

Solid encouragement. And this verse, which we read at church Sunday, was very helpful to me:

    II Corinthians 4:4
The god of this age has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of CHRIST,who is the image of GOD, should shine on them.

  37. Kim,

God has to remind me daily to trust Him with all my concerns. I wouldn’t be able to function otherwise.

We can thank Him together for His merciful, loving care 🙂
